​Deryck has been sketching and painting since he was a boy and now works in many media. However, he always returns to acrylics because this particular medium helps to free up his work and satisfies his impatience to build up layers of paint without having to wait for them to dry. 
Deryck enjoys working on a wide range of subject matter that varies from local landscapes (particularly the Northumberland coast) to animals. Recently, he has concentrated on portraiture and, during lockdown, completed thirteen NHS heroes. His works have been featured in the Northern Echo and the SAA Magazine (below).
